October 9th Newsletter

October 9, 2017

In our prayers this week, we remember the following school families: Michael & Amy Duever, Brett & Courtney Dunn, Alexa Eckhoff, and Dietrich & Shelley Eisele.

In October, we will be collecting money for the Lutheran Heritage Foundation to send full color children’s Bibles around the world. Only $5 purchases a Bible for a child! We have collected $5.02 so far this month. A small green offering envelope came home on Friday for your child’s offering.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will be hosting a trunk or treat event on Thursday, October 26th in the church parking lot from 6:00-7:30 p.m. If you would like to donate a bag of candy or small prizes, there is a donation box by the front door at the school. If you are willing to decorate your trunk and bring your car to the church parking lot, please let Mrs. Long know by e-mailing her at jogellermannlong@gmail.com. Please mark your calendar and bring your kids for some fun trunk or treating!

St. Paul’s Science Fair and Open House will be held on Sunday, November 5th from 2:00-4:00 p.m., with awards being presented at 3:00 p.m. Boards are due on Friday, November 3rd. All students who turned in a project sheet should have received their form back and are encouraged to begin working! Boards are available for pick up from the school office. Please stop by before or after school to get your child’s display board! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Duever.

Kindergarten will travel to the Fire Station on Thursday, October 12th.
2nd Grade will travel to Mosaic on Friday, October 27th.

Grades K-5 will be singing in church on Sunday, October 15th at the 8:00 a.m. service. This is a wonderful opportunity to express our thanks to the St. Paul’s congregation members for their generous financial support of our school.

There will be no school for all students Thursday and Friday, October 19th and 20th. The teachers will be traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska to attend the Nebraska District Teachers and Pastors Conference.

A ticket committee member will be in the media center on Tuesday, October 10th, Friday, October 13th, Tuesday, October 17th, and Friday, October 20th before school, 8:00-8:30 a.m. and after school, 3:00-3:30 p.m. to turn in ticket stubs and money and to request additional tickets. The last turn in day will be Wednesday, October 25th at the same times. Please contact Toree Lang (402) 239-4040 if you have any questions regarding Turkey Supper tickets.

Have you signed up for the pies and salads you plan to bring? Have you signed up to help serve somewhere? There are places and committees that need help! Please sign up and return the forms to school right away so the committees won’t have to call you. A sheet with the salad recipes is coming home with your child today!

A Voter’s Meeting of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is scheduled for Sunday, October 22nd at 1:30 p.m. at the church. If you are a communicant member of St. Paul’s, 18 years or older, you are eligible to be a voting member. Decisions made at our voters’ meetings do affect our school in many ways. At this meeting, the 2018 Financial Budget will be voted on and church board officers will be elected.

Public Health Solutions doesn’t want flu to take you out of the game. Every year just like you need school supplies, you also need a flu shot. As many of you have probably already heard, this year the CDC is recommending that the vaccine be given by shot only. This means no flu mist will be available.

Public Health Solutions would like to encourage you to still help to “Protect the Ones You Love” by getting immunized against the flu. Healthy school age children may not experience complications to the flu, but could risk exposing a sick elderly grandparent or baby brother/sister to the virus. The elderly and infants under 6 months of age are at a greater risk to have serious complications. With flu season almost here, Public Health Solutions District Health Department will again be offering flu immunization clinics for students at our school.

Prior to the start of the clinics, students will bring home consent forms and fact sheets explaining the importance of getting the flu immunization. As parents or guardians, you are encouraged to read the information carefully, complete and sign the consent form and send it back to school with your student.

One lucky student will be a double winner! Not only will they have gotten protected against the flu by getting a flu shot, they will also be entered into a drawing. This year, Public Health Solutions will enter all students who return a completed permission form AND get the flu shot the day of the school clinic into a drawing for a $25.00 gift card. One lucky name will be drawn at the end of the school clinic day.

Public Health Solutions District Health Department will be at our school on Tuesday, October 24th. Flu shot packets came home last week.

The students in Grades K-5 will guess the weight of Mr. Pumpkin for Main Street Beatrice on Wednesday and Thursday, October 25th & 26th. The Night of the Great Pumpkin is Thursday, October 26th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. downtown.

5th Grade will present their class chapel Wednesday, October 25th beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please plan to attend. Parents are welcome at this chapel, or any Wednesday chapel.

SunMart cash register receipts update: our current total is $143,552.32. You can also collect Box Tops, Best Choice UPC labels (from Heartland Foods), Tyson Project A+ labels, and Our Family labels (UPC portion). We can turn in all of these labels to receive money for our school.

In Christ,

Amy Duever
